The Strikers played their final MYSA regular season game on Monday. They were able to put another mark in the win column. SCV played as strong of a game as we have seen from this season, leading the Strikers 1-0 at half time.
The Strikers came out in the second half running hard, controlling the ball in all thirds of the field. Lucas Connolly found some open space and got a shot off at the SCV Keeper. The Keeper made the initial save but Tyler Cohoon was right on the door step, waiting to put the ball away in the back of the net, tying the game at one all.
The Strikers controlled the game from that point on but could put the ball in the goal. Many shots flew over and wide of the goal but nothing would go in for the visiting team. Finally with less than 5 minutes left in the game Jordan Faschingbauer found Lucas Connolly open in the middle of the field at the top of the box. Lucas scored the game winning goal - allowing the Strikers to run the clock out on the SCV team.
The Strikers finished their regular MYSA season 10-1-1. The allowed the fewest goals against in the East Division while scoring the most goals in the GF/GA column. The Strikers have earned a promotion to play C1 next season and a bye in the first round of the State Qualifiers
Joey Huffcutt once again did a great job playing on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball - He earned the MPV ball in this game. Congrats Joey!

The game was a very close right to the end, but the Strikers were able to pull out a 2-1 victory. The Defense held the Woodbury Club to very few shots and were able to transition the ball out of our defensive third. Playing defense for the night were Matthew Hagen, Sam Kunkel, Andy Stoll, Joey Huffcutt and Phillip Kitchen.

The Strikers played tough against a very good Woodbury team and kept the lead until just a few seconds were remaining in the first half. Woodbury was able to bury a shot into the upper part of the net just before the half ended.
The half began with a 1-1 score and the teams switched possesion and each had a number of great scoring opportunities. With less than 10 minutes left in the half the Strikers conceeded a PK opportunity to WDB. Matthew Fries readied himself in goal and when the Woodbury player took the PK, Matthew was able to get his body in front of it and make the crucial save.
Within minutes that Strikers moved into the attack mode, moving Joey Huffcutt from defense to forward - the moment switched at this point and the Strikers were able to find place the ball into the goal one more time. Tyler Cohoon found Lucas Connolly making a run up the middle and was able to get the ball onto his feet - Lucas buried the shot into the Woodbury net for the game winning score.
The game was played excellently by the whole team. The defense of Sam Kunkel, Phillip Kitchen, Joey Huffcutt, Andy Stoll and Cole Oliver shut down every opportunity that Woodbury could organize. The Mids, Lucas Connolly, Jordan Faschingbauer, Dylan Schimmel, Ethan Crocker and Bryce Elkin controlled the middle of the field throughout the game. While Tyler Cohoon and Cade Meyer constantly pressured the WDB Keeper.

28 June by Coach Cohoon
The Chippewa Strikers took down the Eau Claire United team in the second game of their series. The match was played on a rainy night but that did not keep the Strikers from playing one of their best games yet. The Strikers had been off for a couple of weeks but no rust had set in.
The Strikers controlled the ball in the middle of the field and out possessed the United team. The Defense was superb as always, turning back attack after attack. Matthew Fries earned another clean sheet for the night.
Ethan Crocker began the scoring in the first half of the game with the assist going to Lucas Connolly. Lucas and Jordan played a great game at center mid....much of the tempo of the game can be attributed to their very confident play.
Lucas Connolly contributed his first goal of the year to seal the win for the Strikers ball club with an unassisted goal.
Lucas was award the MVP ball by his coaches and captains. Great job Lucas!

The Chippewa Strikers notched another win tonight against the Hastings Football Club. That keeps the Strikers in first place in their MYSA division with a 7W - 1L - 1T record and an overall season record of 16-2-1. Both of the Striker's losses were avenged in their second meeting with each team.
Tonights game was played on Dorais Field in Chippewa Falls. As always the field was fast and bouncy.
Both Teams had their chances in the first half but it was a total defensive standoff with neither team being able to put the ball into the goal. Keeper, Matthew Fries will end up with another Clean Sheet for the night as he played another excellent game in goal. The defenders, including Phillip Kitchen, Sam Kunkel, Matthew Hagen, Simon Arneberg, Andy Stoll and Joey Huffcutt can be very proud of their shut-down defense.
Beginning in the second half the Strikers clearly took control of the game. The Strikers worked their plan to possess in the middle of the field while sending quick runs up the center and along the sides of the field. Jordan Faschingbauer, Cole Oliver, Ethan Crocker, Dylan Schimmel and Bryce Elkin did a great job transitioning the ball and fighting hard to win any stray balls.
Forwards Tyler Cohoon and Cade Meyer did a fantastic job keeping pressure on up front. The two forced a number of corner kicks with one of those kicks turning into the game winning opportunity. A third of the way through the second half, Jordan Faschingbauer took a corner kick that found Tyler Cohoon planted in front of the goal mouth. Tyler was able to find the corner of the net with the game winning shot.
The team went into a defensive holding formation for the remainder of the game, keeping HFC from putting much pressure on their goal.
The MVP ball went to Ethan Crocker tonight for his out standing performance against HFC in both games. Nice job Ethan - super ball handling skills!
Stikers Take Down Woodbury
9 June by Coach Cohoon
In a very exciting game the Chippewa Falls Strikers Soccer Club took Woodbury to the woodshed for their first loss of the season. The Chippewa group ended the game with a 2-0 win.
Woodbury is a very experienced team, a team of great passers, and with great first touches. they stay in shape better than any other team we have played, but they were no match for the Strikers on this Monday night. A lot of the credit for tonights win has to go to Matthew Fries as he stopped over 20 shots on goal to earn another clean sheet.
Woodbury outshot Chippewa in the first half but with Matthew and his solid defensive corps they were held goalless for the first 35 minutes of the game. The score was tied 0-0 at the half.
The Strikers discussed what needed to be done during the halftime break and went out and executed their plan. The Strikers slowed the game down by possessing and organizing prior to attacking. The first goal of the game came via a pass off the foot of Tyler Cohoon to Dylan Schimmel who was running down the right sideline. Dylan collected the ball, took a step toward the goal unleashing a long arching shot that floated over the Keepers hands and into the back of the net. Score 1-0 Strikers!
With about 12 minutes left in the half Cade Meyer rushed up the left side of the field and was able to get a long hard shot off from his right foot. That shot found its way into the Woodbury goal, giving the Chippewa team a 2-0 lead.
Cole Oliver, Jordan Faschingbauer and the rest of the defensive team went into their holding formation. They began shutting down every attempt the Woodbury guys made on our goal. Sam Kunkel, Phillip Kitchen, Matthew Hagen, Simon Arnebert, Andy Stoll and Joey Hufficut all played excellent games.
Dylan Schimmel, Bryce Elkin and Ethan Crocker showed a lot of energy tracking opponents through the midfield winning many balls from their opponents. It was a good day to be a Chippewa Striker.
The forwards; Jake Klages, Cade Meyer and Tyler Cohoon played exceptionally tonight, controlling the ball in the middle and slowing the forward movement down enough to organize and attack. They often won the ball from Woodbury, as they tried to transition the ball out of their defending third.
Final score was 2-0 Strikers. Credit for the win and the MVP ball went to Matthew Fries for the amazing job he did in goal tonight. Nice job Matthew!
