MYSA State Tournament Update
August 14, 2017 by Chippewa Strikers Soccer Club
The U11 team started the state tournament by taking on Somali American on Friday, July 21 in Rochester, MN. The Strikers took control early and never let off, winning by a score of 6-0. Saturday, July 22, the boys faced St. Michael in an early morning game. The team played well together and was able to beat St. Michael by a score of 4-1, advancing to game #3. The third game was later in the day on Saturday against Crow River. After some back and forth runs, the boys were able to secure the win with a 4-2 score. The win moved the team into the semifinal match the next day. Bright and early on Sunday morning, the Chippewa Strikers took the field against Club Deportivo Lobos. The game started out tough for the Strikers and they could not find the rhythm to hit the back of the net. Club Deportivo Lobos managed to sneak three goals in before the Strikers shut the door holding them to that number, and Club Deportivo Lobos walked away with the 3-0 win. The U11 team finished in 3rd out of 66 teams in the MYSA summer league.
The U14 team’s bid for the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association state title came up short. The team started the tournament with a 3-0 win against previously undefeated Delano on Friday afternoon. The team followed up on Saturday morning with a 5-3 loss to Monticello. In game three, the team battled North Suburban and a heat index of 102 to come away with a 5-0 victory. However, the loss to Monticello left the U14 team in second place by five points in Group A, ending their tournament after three games. The U14 Chippewa Strikers ended the season with a record of 11–3–1, 3rd out of 38 teams in the MYSA C3 summer league.
